Shankhnaad - Krishna’s Battle Cry
Oil based Latex paint, stucco on Canvas (48"x60") 2011. Dallas, TX.

The battle of Kurukshtra began with Krishna’s Shankhnaad or the bellowing of the conch. Krishna, himself a great warrior, played the part of Arjun’s Saarthi or charioteer, hence the horse whip in his hand.

The idea of this painting came to Rahul when recently he got sick while travelling alone. As the flu virus multiplied and took over his body, he saw this image of Krishna bellowing his conch to start the battle. Rahul has been seeing representation of Krishna in Indian art as a man devoid of musculature. He feels that the lord was a warrior too and had to have a well built physical appearance.
