Expulsion Of Sita
Oil, Latex, Stucco on MDF board (23"x64") 2011. Dallas, TX.

Can the doubts cast by a mere Dhobi compel a king to banish his pregnant wife? This question has been debated by Hindus throughout the generations with no satisfactory answer.
This painting captures the moment in time when Ram, compelled by his sense of duty, banished the pregnant Sita. Luv and Kush were not physically present at this occasion but Rahul has used them as symbolic figures to represent various emotions of this heart breaking family break up scene. One symbolizes the helplessness of the father and the other, pulling on the mother’s sari, depicting her dignity and self respect. The transitioning of light to dark points to the impending sorrow of separation after the joy of togetherness. Rahul has left the faces blank because oftentimes what is implied is more powerful than what is obvious.
